Ministry on the Move at the Stewardship Fair
by Carolyn Rock
Stewardship, ministry… the terms are different, but the meaning is the same. They represent the ways in which Catholics all over the country are reaching out to each other, their communities and the world. These efforts were displayed at the annual Ministry Fair in St. Patrick parish hall throughout the week end of October 3 and 4.
After each Mass, representatives of the over thirty liturgical, administrative and social ministries sponsored by the parish were present to answer questions and encourage their fellow parishioners to join them in service to those in need. In an effort to more closely track and improve communication with parish volunteers, the Stewardship Committee developed a new database this year, exclusively for parish ministries.
Rather than have ministry representatives collect separate sign-up sheets for each program at the individual booths, volunteers were asked to complete one form per person, checking off each of the ministries in which they wish to participate. Not only did this save on paper, in keeping with our parish’s efforts to be come more ecologically conscious, but it simplified record-keeping and boosted accuracy in the data entry process.
For this reason, all ministry participants are asked to complete one of the new forms, even if they have volunteered in the past. Ministry chairs receive up dated lists for their use in contacting parishioners who have expressed an interest in their activities. The new forms received a warm reception from the new volunteers, who appreciated the brief ministry descriptions, as well as, the ease of filling out their contact information once, rather than multiple times. Over 200 forms were distributed to fair attendees and, to date approximately 150 have been returned.
Anyone who did not receive and wishes to volunteer may print one off of the parish website: www.stpatsfarm.comor pick one up on the table on the church landing, at the top of the stairs. They can be returned to the basket under the table when complete or e mailed
