The Catholic Transcript "On-Line"                           THIS WEEKS MASS INTENTIONS

Dear Parishioners,

There are many signs that Saint Patrick parish is thriving. One of them is the willingness on the part of parishioners to assist in our pastoral ministry. I am very pleased that Toni Berlandy has completed the Archdiocesan training program for lay ministry. After two years of preparation, she will be commissioned as a lay minister for Saint Patrick parish by Archbishop Leonard Blair at Saint Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield on May 11, 2016. She has been assisting in our RCIA program and I have recently hired her to replace Christopher Hampton as our Youth Minister. While lay ministers usually do not receive compensation, because of the job and hourly requirements, a modest stipend is being offered.

Our parish is fortunate to have two others in preparation for commissioning as lay ministers and will shortly complete their program, as well. They are Joseph Howard and David Edwards. I know that our parish will benefit from their involvement in our pastoral ministry. As you may already know, John Griffin, commissioned in the same program, is functioning as a lay minister for our parish with a focus on shut-ins. This includes both at home and in the various facilities for the infirm and the elderly located within our parish.

This weekend has a special significance because it is Mother’s Day weekend. The Knights of Columbus are distributing pink carnations at all of our masses as an appropriate gift. We need in a very special way to celebrate and to thank our mothers for their generosity to their families. If they have been called to Christ it is appropriate to offer a special prayer of remembrance for them on this special weekend.
