Welcome Home

If you are a visitor to Saint Patrick Church, we want you to know how welcome you are, whether you have come here from another part of the country, from across the world, or simply from another parish here in the Archdiocese of Hartford. Thanks in part to the generosity of visitors like yourself, we are able to celebrate the Church’s liturgy here in a fitting and beautiful way.

Today begins the season of Advent in preparation for the celebration of Christmas. In the commercial world, the Christmas celebration began weeks ago, but
for Catholics it truly begins on December 25th.  As spiritual preparation for Christmas, it is important for all of us to fully appreciate the joy associated with the arrival of the Christ child.  The readings at mass from the Old Testament have been specially selected by the Church to remind us that the longing for the Messiah was so central to the religion of the chosen people.  Jesus Christ, the Messiah, is the fulfillment of
the Old Testament prophecies.  The Old Testament readings at mass lead us step
by step to the Annunciation when the angel, Gabriel announces to Mary, that she would be the mother of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. With the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, the great drama of our salvation is fast coming to a close. Christmas always points to Easter as the culmination of the life of Jesus Christ. It is Easter that is the major
event for the faith of the Christian. Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ, but Easter celebrates the Resurrection. His resurrection is our resurrection as well.

2015 Living Nativity and Christmas Festival.
It has become a tradition for the past several years to prepare for the Birth of Christ on Christmas, by having the children/youth of the parish “act out” the Christmas Story in costume.  The Living Nativity will need young actors portraying the following roles: Baby Jesus, Joseph, Mary, Angels, Shepherds, Inn Keeper, Narrator, Three Kings
(Magi), Angel Gabriel.  Please email me if you would like your children to be involved this year on Sunday afternoon, December 13 at 4:00 p.m. This will be combined with the Lighting of the Parish Christmas Tree! A wonderful family activity.
